How to choose a wooden coffee table?

The coffee table is a place for coffee, books, board games, or your feet after a long day. In this article, you'll find out why a height of 50 cm works best, which shape (rectangle, square, round, oval) suits your living room, and how to choose between oak, ash, and the type of edge.

Wooden coffee table – oak or ash as the base

Oak is strong, has a deep grain and knots that make each piece unique. Over time, it acquires a warmer shade and patina. Ash is lighter, finer, appears airier and is suitable for bright interiors. Both materials are treated with natural oil; the surface is pleasant to the touch, the wood can work and can be easily restored after years.

Coffee table height – 50 cm is the golden mean

This height is ideal for standard sofas and armchairs. When you sit down, the table is at a comfortable arm height; you can place a cup, phone, or your feet on it, but at the same time, it doesn't get in the way when you stand up. We only make lower or higher variations upon special request.

Coffee table shapes – four basic options

A rectangle 120x60 cm is a classic that fits along a longer sofa. It offers plenty of space for books, a mug, and a laptop. A square 80x80 cm is balanced, great for square or smaller living rooms where you want symmetry. A round diameter of 80 cm is soft, without corners, ideal for smaller spaces or if you have small children who might get hurt on the corners. The oval shape combines the length of a rectangle with the softness of a round table; it is often the most popular compromise.

Coffee table edge types – natural, beveled, straight

The natural edge retains the natural outline of the wood, so the table looks like a piece of tree directly from the forest, providing the most authentic and rustic look. The beveled edge has a gentle slant; the corners are more pleasant to the touch, less sharp, and appear more modern. The straight edge is clean, precise, sharp, perfect for minimalist or industrial interiors.

How to choose a coffee table for your living room

A small living room or studio apartment calls for a round table with a diameter of 80 cm or a square 80x80 cm, ideally made of light ash, so as not to overwhelm the space. A large sofa and family living room are best complemented by a 120x60 cm rectangle with oak and a distinctive grain. A modern apartment or loft goes well with a straight or beveled edge and a light shade. A rustic style or cottage calls for a natural edge and oak with a patina.
